C1 Mounting Clutch Cross Shaft Bracket

Engine is not installed. Mounted bracket in proper alignment with hook on frame to which one end of the spring is attached and in alignment with the cross shaft perpendicular to the position of the block. In retrospect, which happens frequently on this project, I should have also used the pedal push rod as a measurement source. Once I got one, and installed it to the backet and clutch pedal, with the arm of the shaft pointed down, the clutch pedal is depressed half-way to the floor. Lifting the pedal so that it is in alignment with the brake pedal causes the arm on the shaft to rotate up about 35 degrees. In addition, the space between the tip of the unextended spring is about 1 1/2" from the connection on the shaft. Looks like I mounted the bracket about 1/2" too far forward. Before it is removed and repositioned, just wanted input on two issues: does my analysis look accurate to you, and 2. from a previous post the a member welded the bracket with the engine installed but body off...any experiences with welding the bracket with the engine installed and body on (a tight space, but might make the alignment process easier)? Thanks.

Re: C1 Mounting Clutch Cross Shaft Bracket

I just did this last winter. I had the bracket tig welded on by a fellow who came to the house. The measurements on my 58 were as follows:
the oval hole in the side of the frame measure back the rear 20" to the first weld of the bracket. The bracket only is welded a short distance as the bracket hangs over the frame. The measurement to the clutch return spring from the bracket is 7 3/8. The bracket is on an angle and both welds are of a different length. I have a great diagram i could fax if you need it. My engine was out at the time. My measurements were right on. Good luck
    Susan

Susan, I would like a copy of your diagram. I found it difficult to work with the one in the assembly manual and a good picture is worth a thousand words. You may fax it to 941-528-5794. It's a business fax so please address it to my attention. If it would be convenient, you may also send it via email. Thanks, Richard

        Hi Richard,
I will fax tonight, and will include some extra info on the clutch which helped me a lot. Hope it helps, sorry I am not great at posting photos. Good luck.

Susan, I apologize. I provided the wrong area code (the one where I live not where I work). The devil always seems to be in the overlooked details. The correct number is 727-528-5794. Again, sorry for the inconvience. I am looking forward to the information. Richard
