what finish are the hood pins and springs on a 68?

This is for the hood pin and springs on my 68. Technical guide doesn't cover this really.

    thanks

The lock bolts were black phosphate. The springs were also black phosphate finished.

I believe what you are describing as a "pin" is the LOCK BOLT. Otherwise, there is no "pin". The lock bolt and springs are finished as I previously described. The lower spring SEAT is zinc plated. The upper spring RETAINER is also zinc plated.

I guess we're talking about the same thing. I'm talking about the pin and springs on the back top of the firewall the hood comes in contact with when it shuts.

not sure still what it's supposed to be finished like because I'm seeing cars onine saying they are top flight with their hood locking bolts all silver looking...not black phosphate anywhere like you're describing.

            Hi Brandon
Here is an extra set that I restored. If you need any help let me know. These came out quite nice. Phosphated and all.
            Thanks, Grant

wow those looks great! from what I could tell mine looked somewhat like that..I know they hadn't been messed with but this is on a 68 so obviously they were weathered compared to yours since my car is just now getting restored.

How did you get the phosphate finish? I don't think thats a spray can type of deal or is it?

and the other parts just look to be a natural finish correct?

if it's a big deal to get the phosphate look as far as having to ship them off to have it done..is there a way to kinda immitate the phosphate look?

              thanks Grant

I erred when I wrote the lock bolts were natural finish. They were black phosphate as in Grant's photo. I don't know what I was thinking of when I wrote natural. If I can still edit it, I will to avoid future confusion.

no problem Joe and since I have the picture to go by it really cleared things up.

Hey what about the nuts and washers that hold them to the firewall? mine are black right now...not sure if someone in the past painted them or what.

                  thanks

                    Hi Brandon

                    As I recall

Nuts are a natural steel gray finish
                    Washers are natural zinc finish

If black then someone painted the whole assembly.

                    Thanks, Grant

The nuts and washers on my 1970 are gray phosphate, and the spring is more black than shown in Grent's photo -- but then you guys are interested in 1968s and all bets are off for that year.
