    C4 Experts please

Can some one please confirm if the convertible top release button on a 1986 Corvette reads 'conv top storage lid release' (as per JTM) or just 'rear release' on the bezel surrounding the button.
My research leads me to believe it's the later of the two.
It's cost a six point deduction on a Top Flight car so any information is greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Ashley

    I have a 1986 convertible VIN#1292 (5 star Crossed Flags Award winner).

The button says REAR RELEASE twice in a circular pattern. I have a call in to the Team Leader for clarification. Suggest other owners respond with their VIN number. It is possible a running change was made later in the model year.

I'm not really too conversant on the nuances of C4 convertible configurations. However, I believe the switch for the rear release was the same for coupe or convertibles. In other words, it released the hatchback for coupes and the deck lid for convertibles. If so, I don't see why they would have used script on the bezel that was applicable to convertibles. Something more "generic" like the "rear release" you and others have reported would seem to be more in order.

As far as I know, the bezel around the switch is either part of the switch or the panel in which the switch is mounted. Either way, I don't see any practicality for GM in the script being convertible-specific.

I have reviewed this issue with the Team Leader. His position is that it is possible that a convertible only button label was used but until this can be documented, either the "REAR RELEASE" or "CONV TOP STORAGE LID RELEASE" label will be given full originality credit on 1986 convertibles.
