I dropped by the Walmart in Torrance (CA), yesterday, and they actually had their house brand Super-Tech 15W-40 oil on the shelf, which is rarely the case. It's an older formulation that's rated CI-4 and was priced at $8.94/gallon versus the national brand CJ-4s that ranged from $10.50 to $11.77, so I bought a gallon.
I would have bought more, but I still have three gallons of a national brand CJ-4 that I bought last year when there was a $3/gallon rebate deal, so I have enough oil on hand to cover annual changes on all my cars for at least the next year.
As I have said many times, I alway buy the least expensive CJ-4 or CI-4 I find on the shelf when I am shopping for oil. Brand name is of no importance/consequence. The only important issue is the API service category and viscosity range; 15W-40 is suitable for cold starts down to about 10-15 degrees F, and my cars rarely have to start at anything below 40 F.
