    Need Water pump Impeller

Where would one locate a correct or functional water pump impeller for an L-36 BB 427, a # 284 org water pump. Upon disassemble with my new WP kit , the org cast impeller cracked and broke??

    Best advice please....Keith

Well, you could look for an NOS GM #3863197 or GM #3921939. However, I think you'd be looking for a LONG time.

I'm not surprised the rotor cracked. This is ONE of the common pitfalls of "home water pump rebuilding". Plus, many of the cast rotors have been seriously degraded by corrosion and are, consequently, very "thin", making them especially susceptible to cracking.

Most of the waterpumps today use a stamped steel impeller. I don't consider these as good as the cast type, though. Large commercial rebuilders often use this type of impeller in their rebuilds, too.

Water pump parts are not generally available in the auto parts market since very few folks rebuild their own waterpumps. But, they are available to commercial rebuilders. I think your best bet is to contact someone like Bill Mock or Arthur Gould and see if they'll sell you a good used piece.

Buy the time you call around and find an impeller and pay freight you probably could go to your local parts store and buy a rebuilt pump and use the impeller of that pump (just look until you find a cast impeller if you have to have that). My automotive machinist took a Champion Parts rebuilt pump and put the impeller, shaft etc in my 608 casting pump. This was 10 years ago. Just an idea. Dale
