    (10) 1955 Corvette V6's - I didn't know

Received my April 2009 issue of Vette vues magazine today. In a "Factory Facts" column by Alan Kaplan, he describes a factory Technical Service Bulletin in which an oil splash guard can be added to the 265 C.I. V8 manifolds. The story begins by noting the application is for all 65 Corvettes "except the small number of 1955 Corvettes built with V6 engines. The number of 1955 Corvettes built with V6 engines is 'believed' to be at less than '10' units!"

I was in High School in 1955 and, like all us greasers back then, thought I knew it all. Boy! Where was I? I could have put one of those in my 50 Chevy coupe instead of going through all that work putting in a V8!

    V6. Interesting.

I'll bet that they were only installed in those few metal-bodied prototype Corvettes.

Think it's a typo, never heard of a V6. Think it should read inline 6. Bill.

agree with bill, it is a typo. there were in fact several 55 vettes that left st louis with the 235 ci inline six banger.mike

This is ONE of MANY perfect examples why I no longer subscribe to ANY automotive related magazine-----------------------EXCEPT the RESTORER!!!!!!!!!! Jeeeeeeeeeeeeez!
V6 IS NOT a typo---------------it is a dummy who doesn't know from Shinola.

          I can see a 5 or a 7 as a typo for a 6, but NOT V6! The V ain't EVEN close to the 6, it's clear on the bottom row!

The person typing the article is probably 18 and has never heard of an "in line" 6.

I agree Tom. In fact, even at the furthest stretch, the only GM V6 around in that era was the GMC truck engine - I'm not sure of the Buick engine (?), but I doubt that too. Guess, like you say, It's just one of the youngins that don't know their Corvette (or automotive) history and don't care to spend the time to look it up. They probably never heard of an inline six. Had it just been stated once, ok, possibly a typo, but twice in the same paragraph! That's ignorance.

I did, by the way, have my "tongue in cheek" when I posted the thread as I was about 99.9% sure no such single animal existed, to say nothing of "less than 10".

I'll take it as confirmation that the blind orang Marmaduke is still the proof reader at Vette Void.

The V-6 truck engine was not available until the 1960 model year. I think that Stevie Wonder could see that he is confused

Right you are Dick. I recall I was working in landscaping in 1960 and the owner had just bought one of the first Jimmy V6 P.U. trucks. I was one of the first to drive that baby and really thought I had something; "Let's see how she'll go!"

How about the Buick V6? Seem to recall they changed the firing order on it once too.
