Re: Coil capasitator orange or black wire
I suspect that's a typo (orange wire)...all caps I've seen used black insulation on the lead wires.
As far as the color of the phenolic insulation surrounding the lead wire, there are numerous references to it being orange or reddish in color. But, I've gathered a healthy number of various RF caps over the years and I've seen black as well as brownish phenolic insulation used.
My conclusion is Delco Remy didn't care about color and used what was available to keep the line running. BUT, the burned-orange color is the most prevalent.
For the mid-year style of coil RF cap, what judges do look for is the precise manner in which the bottom 'mounting leg' is attached to the body to detect factory original vs. service replacement parts...- Top

Re: Coil capasitator orange or black wire
My early 67 corvette 300 HP car has the cap used for the L-36 big block and it just sits in the bracket next to the plug wires. The attaching screw for the correct cap is screwed in the little hole but it looks like it's never been out. Could this big block cap have been used by factory as I find it odd the exact l-36 cap would have been put there by someone else, I think the big block # ends in 452.
Has anyone ever seen this, I am debating weather to install the correct cap??- Top
