    Battery cutoff switch

Does anybody know of a good and small battery disconnect switch? I have tried both the common lever type and the screw type and both take up too much room in the battery storage box. The battery is the called for delco for my 68 BB and fits O.K.

I had a side terminal battery in my early 69 for a long time with a blade type switch that was tight but worked OK. Now that I have gone to the correct top post battery, like you, I have found that nothing seems to fit.

I'd be interested if anybody has found something that works too.

I don't use the cut off swithes on my 68 and 70. If I am not going to drive them for a few days or longer it only takes a about a minute to grab a 5/8 inch ratchet wrench and remove the bolt that secures the negative battery cable to the frame under the battery box. I can connect the cable in less than two minutes.

I have a 70 Corvette with the same behind the driver seat location a real pain in the back if you know what I mean. I do not have a water filled battery in my car. I have the red top Optima and I painted it black to comply with The Sports Car Club Of America judging rules for a black battery. I know NCRS would deduct on my battery but the thought of a acid water battery behind my seat is well not something I wanted to deal with. I have tried the screw type disconnect switch and found it was not acceptable. I have gone with the lever switch for the side mount cables. The lever switch works easily and it is fast. I found it difficult to unscrew the negative cable every time I wanted to start up the car. A possible way for your car is to install a heavy duty NASCAR switch between the ground frame location but the ground access to operate this switch is tight on a C3 Corvette. I made a bracket for this switch for my 36 Ford and found it to be easy to operate but on a C3 that is so low to the ground maybe not so easy. You might consider going with the Optima in between NCRS shows with the lever switch.

I have a correct top post battery in my '69 with a green knob battery disconnect and have had it there for years. No problem with fitting it in and still works great.

All you need to do is leave the positive (or negative) cable clamp loose and wring it on and off the battery post. Been doing this for years on my 60 and my 70 with no problems. The clamp has never come loose or vibrated off. Very simple and free.

What about the bonus points you're missing out on in Flight Judging?

                Dale,

I have one of the green knob battery disconnect switches on a Delco top terminal type battery. It's on the negative terminal and works ok. You have to put it at an angle. You may have to do some trial and error adjustments, but it will fit.

I have the screw type on my C3. Summit and Moroso have some nice ones and some can be mounted remotely.
