    69 seat belt location

    Hello Friends,
I am restoring an early production 69 convertible . The rear compartment has the holes for shoulder harness's. The console that came with the car does not have slots to store the seat belts latches. Are the seat belt latches suppose to clip in front of the seats ( which it does not show to ever have ) or are they suppose to go in pockets in the console ? What is the possibility of it having shoulder harnesses ?

    Thanks, Danny

    Danny,

I have Feb '69 and the seatbelts clip to the front seat. I have the holes for the shoulder harnesses too, but no shoulder belts. I don't recall ever seeing a '69 with console pockets, but I'd have to check to be sure. I think the shoulder harness was an option, but I'd have to check that too.

I did by a set of original seat belts from a wrecked Jan '69 car that had the shoulder belts, sold them on eBay.

      Danny,

I have 69 convertible also and I agree with Pat. The shoulder belts will not work with the convertible. The top will not go down with the belt retractor in place. I have clips in front of the seat and no pockets in the console.

        Danny:
The pockets for the seat belt were on '68 not '69. The female belts were shortened and put in vinyl sleeves that held the belt in place upright. The clip on the front of the seat was added later in '69. My October '68 (5854) car does not have them. Perhaps others with later cars can say when these clips show up. The AIM sheet (UPC 1, F26) does show them but this sheet has changes as late as Aug '69 so it may be a later revised sheet.

Forgot to ad that shoulder belts were standard on coupes , not convertibles.
