After finally drilling out the spare tire tub bolt (head broken off), I discovered what appears to be the original spare. The production date of my car according to the Dealer Copy of the Order is 1/28/71. The tire is a Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread. Does anyone know what the code means B2NDLJD1? On the back side, there is what appears to be a white dot of paint about the size of a pencil eraser marking the location of the balancing weight. The little nubs are still on the perimeter of the tire and I don't believe it's ever been out of the tub.

Re: 71 original spare tire?
Might be - the tire shows the molded-in "DOT" letters (which started in 1968), but the tire identification number has the Goodyear-proprietary coding; the DOT-mandated standard TIN number wasn't required until mid-May, 1971.- Top

Re: 71 original spare tire?
That tire was made the first week of 1971.
FWIW The build date on your trim tag will give you a much better estimate of when your Corvette was produced than an "expected date of production."Terry- Top

Re: 71 original spare tire?
What tells you the "first week of 71" from the numbers? As for the build date - my Corvette Order copy #7 shows the date received as 71/01/13 with an expected date of production of 00/00/00. However, the actual date produced is also listed as 1-28-71 where the carb code, engine number, axle, tranny, and key number are listed. My trim tag shows F27 (Jan. 27).- Top

Re: 71 original spare tire?
Tom:
According to Bizzoko (pg. 71, 76) the tire code is interpreted as:
B2 - 1st week of Jan. '71
ND -Topeka, Kansas plant
LJ - F70-15
D1 - Raised white letter

Re: 71 original spare tire?
Jeff, While you are looking tires, please check my potential original if you don't mind. My car is a 69 January build with very old unused spare Firestone Super Sports Wide Oval with white stripe, DOT 147, and the Manufacturers code is 002AC117.

Jeff:
Unfortunately, the decoding info published in the Bizzoko book is very confusing for '69 cars. I can't figure it out so I will have to leave it to others to answer your question. Sorry I can't help.
