    66 Paint Question

I have two paint questions: This is for a 66 early car.

    1. On the two front fenders where the hood closes, there are two rivits (one on each side), that holds the J-clips for the wire harness, are they painted?

    2. Was the door striker install before the car was painted? If so, how should it be taped off?

Yes, the rivets should be painted.
The strikers were in place before painting. They were masked with a rubber cover which left the edge closest to the jamb exposed. There should be overspray around the surface that mates to the jamb.

Thank you Joe for the information.

One more question: The door jam area that gets missed with paint, should the primer be gray or red. Thanks.

The body was first primed with red primer, with good coverage. I'm not certain what sections and how good the coverage was on any primers that went over the red.
I can say that when I stripped my '65, there was much more evidence of red primer, than any other.................however, the car had been repainted numerous times before I got to it.
In my humble opinion, I would say that you couldn't go wrong if you let some red primer show through, if you so choose, rather than gray.
Someone with more knowledge of this subject should chime in here.

          Joe,

This car has 47,000 miles on it and I have found almost all Red primer.
          Thanks,
          John

            Hi John
In addition to the good respones above,
the cup covering the striker was in position prior to prime and paint,
when complete, you should see some bare fiberglass inside the striker.

              Mike (25129) Thanks Mike
I was wondering about the fiber glass being bare in the striker...
