    53-55 take note emblem TRIVIA

Mary Joe listed this front emblem on e-bay having no reserve and stated it was a real original one (which is was).I place a bid of $400.00 and won it for $51.00 .Many know my pet pea is in the deign of the original parts.

The REAL original emblem back color is a cream white ,the right flag black areas are more black then the white , the lettering in gold is gold, the left flag is a deeper red.

The Repro's today copy the GM reissue emblem , the emblem back color is bright WHITE, the right flag WHITE areas are more White then black, the GOLD lettering is more silver if you look at it in different angles, and the RED is not as bright .

That is why in my opinion no one bided over $50.00 thinking it don't look like the one they see on restored 53-55 Corvettes at NCRS meets and thought it was odd, wrong or a poor repro.
I told Mary few will think it's correct and thankfully many did and I got a 99% perfect emblem that I thought I would never see or find in the 30 years I've been looking. WOW!

I'm still praying and looking for a REAL original horn button because the repro's are the same as the front emblem WRONG!

Thanks that's what I try to show people that are into detail when I judge a vett to help them find the real part.

        Nice find, Roy.
I've admitted that I have an addition to NOS parts myself.
I'm missing just a handful from 1953, up to 1982.
It really gets bad when you have every emblem, and then you start going after the slight variations in NOS service replacements.
I keep promising my wife I will check into Promises rehab in Malibu, California, as soon as the have the "NOS addiction" program up and running. Oh yeah, and as Joe L. says, they are not for sale.

Ridge ! You need therapy and I thought I was nuts.
Having that many you can compare (real) to repro's and do what I do for members. But then you'll realize few people care because the JM doesn't get into detail .So many restored Corvette use repro's that people think the real part is wrong. The big thing is the engine pad now ,have a restamp that looks good 100 points. Have a pretty repro get 100 points. I cant tell you how many times people look at my vetts and tell me what part is wrong that is original

I am a little confused. If you put a bid in for $400, how did you get it for $51?

Roger, on eBay you bid the maximum you want to pay/bid but you do not necessarily pay that amount if you win. In htis case someone bid $50.00 (calculated from eBays bid increment table) so ebay added $1.00 and Roy won for $51.00.

                From eBay:
                About automatic bidding
Our automatic bidding system makes bidding convenient so you don't have to keep coming back to re-bid every time someone places another bid.
                How automatic bidding works

When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you're willing to pay for the item. The seller and other bidders don’t know your maximum bid.
We’ll place bids on your behalf using the automatic bid increment amount, which is based on the current high bid. We'll bid only as much as necessary to make sure that you remain the high bidder, or to meet the reserve price, up to your maximum amount.
If another bidder places the same maximum bid or higher, we’ll notify you so you can place another bid. Your maximum bid is kept confidential until it is exceeded by another bidder.

                Example
                • The current bid for an item is $10.00. Tom is the high bidder, and has placed a maximum bid of $12.00 on the item. His maximum bid is kept confidential from other members.
                • Laura views the item and places a maximum bid of $15.00. Laura becomes the high bidder.
                • Tom’s bid is incremented to his maximum of $12.00. Laura’s bid is now $12.50.
                • We send Tom an email that he has been outbid. If he doesn’t raise his maximum bid, Laura wins the item.

GMParagon, TrimParts, and Dr. Rebuild, among others have manufactured some excellent, first rate reproduction parts, and acquiring them, can be much easier, more convenient, and less costly than chasing NOS parts. I still just like NOS parts.

I only hope what I have learned from my extensive research on these parts, I can pass on as helpful tips to fellow members of this club. Roy I have so much respect, and admiration for members such as you, and too many others to name here, who repeatedly pass on their wisdom, personal knowledge, and helpful tips to their fellow Corvette brothers and sisters. I noticed today, you have now passed 5,766 posts on the TDB, many, many of which are helpful, and informative. Another fellow member from California, who helps, and helps, and helps with members frequently needing part information, has hit 20,920 posts.

A good example of re-issue parts are the 53-55 hub cap missing he flippers. Order the Corvette 55 hub caps in1956 or 1957 you get the original part order it in 1970 or 1980 and you may get the reissue part that may have changed

Ridge, I notice the different shades of red on the emblem flags. That should start some arguments. GM didn't care much about much of this stuff we all worship to. Nice collection is that your IRA? Ed
