I have Steve Lavignes pictures and read all of the archives. I am trying to simplify the measurements. The pictures and measurements are clear on the lower valance but the measurements in the AIM for the hood refer to center lines and measurements in half widths. I have tried to use those and came up with the following calculations.I am starting at the valance and measuring back toward the windshield. Is it correct that the center solid paint at the top of the valance and bottom of the hood is 4" wide and the solid paint just below where the hood rises is 9.12" On the elevated part of the hood is the solid paint 17.62" wide? From the side of each of the solid painted areas you would then go over 5/16th of an inch and paint a 1/8th inch stripe? Then you would shape the stripe on the valance as shown in Steve's pictures. Correct?

Re: 1967 big block hood paint and stripes
You take the 8.43 dimension to the top of center of the lower part of the hood and paint over to 3.87 from the side of the raised area. If so you have painted 4.56 of solid color on one side. You multiply that time the 2 sides and you get 9.12. I am sure you will see the 8.43 and 3.87 on page G 379 of the manual. Hope I am reading it correctly. I have a new painter and I am trying to make it as easy for him as possible. The car is being painted in base coat clear coat. Anyone know the timing between marina blue base coat, tape application, black stinger color and clear coat?- Top

If you are painting Marina Blue you must paint car "loosely assembled" IMHO!!! If you don't, there is a high risk of paint mismatch. Its very frustrating to see a paint color change when under flourescent lights between the doors, headlite buckets etc. Don't ask how I know except that I repainted the entire car because an "expert" told me there would not be a problem painting in pieces with the piece "orientation" as it would be mounted.

Re: 1967 big block hood paint and stripes
One last question. I am a little unsure on the width of the body color stripe on the upper part of the hood between the center large area ( black in my case marina blue car) and the 1/8th black stripe. Is it still 5/16th as the lower part of the hood and valance or is it 3/16th?- Top

Ridge you made my day since it has been painted. My neighbor has one that is wrong is why I questioned it. If you have a minute send me a hood pic to carnold@coj.net- Top
