Roy - check out the pad on this one, same builder, he does good work, the last link looks familiar, and he sold the same block twice:

Notice that none of his 60and later blocks have VIN numbers. He seems to have an unlimited supply of rare blocks. Wonder why?

Loren I bought that engine as a spare for my 55 even tho my 55 is a PG . That engine is a three speed, but for the money it was cheap . I cant have one rebuilt for that kind of money . The G I've seen looks different on other 55's vetts. Who knows? Luckily few 55 are around so who really knows or cares anyway! when any of my engine pads are judged it dont matter to me anyway<you'll aiways get many different opinions and points deduct. Look how many opinions people here argue over any ONE engine pad posted on this forum to "get" a opinion!
You cant still make top flight I think not having any numbers on the pad.(blank)

I agree Roy, that was a great price, you couldn't build it yourself for that price for the parts if you bought them separately. That builder is selling his 283s for $7,500, $2,500 is an awesome buy. And for a restoration block, the pad looks second to none, not some belt sander looking job. You could put that block in your car now and run it, and put the original in storage and have piece of mind. You wouldn't even have to take the block out for judging.

I've been putting on many NOS items I have to complete the engine like the air cleaner ,dist,exshaust,manifolds ,shielding ,fuel pump and more. Still need to chrome some valve covers then get those 9 fin off and throw them out

I am not saying whether this is or isn't original, but the stamp is exactly done the same way '56 models were done. The sixth and seven digit were stamped individually because the gang only holds five digits. For that reason they are almost always misaligned with the first five of the block production numbers. See my two examples below of "56 pads. The edges of the pad are too sharp for my liking though.

This is the seller down in Fresno. A friend bought a '58 engine from him. It was rebuilt, but what a piece of junk. Took it apart, assembled badly, .70000 bored. I would not purchase any of his engines without concern.
