    Instrument Repair

I see in the Archives referencing Instrument Repair in South Carolina.... However there appears to be two shops both located in Greenville. D&M Restoration and Palmetto Restoration.

Both advertise in Driveline so always looking to support those who support NCRS. Could anyone who has experience with both or either please provide some feedback? Thanks in advance for all your valued help!!!

Toss a coin, they're sort of related.

        Re: Instrument Repair

I live in Greenville. I have used D&M on occasion with success. They have been in business for a longtime and restore instruments from Vintage cars as well as all makes of GM, Ford, and Chrysler.

I had never heard of Palmetto Restorations before this thread. I didn't notice the Ad in the Driveline. I looked them up on the internet.

Palmetto Restorations is a relatively new enterprise according to their website. They do total restorations. I wouldn't be surprised if they use D&M as a subcontractor for their gauge/instrument work.

Classic Gauge Solutions! He tried to swindle me for $593. Tach & speedo were so poorly done they had to be re-done by Corvette Clocks by Roger who did a GREAT job.[/FONT]

I used D&M for a 1958 tachometer and speedometer restoration many years ago and the quality of the repairs were very good. So I would recommend them.

I used D&M for restoration of my clock and radio from my 68. Very happy with the results and price.

I have used John Dvorski (Red Line Gauge & Clock Repair) on several occasions, he's from Humbolt TN. Don't have an email address but his phone is 1 - 800 - 375 - 2310 (not sure if all the numbers are needed inside the US) and fax is (731) 661 - 0225.
                  Excellent service and highly recommended.

                      Michael,

If everything worked when you took the dash out of your car AND you have a little mechanical ability, I'd suggest you restore your dash yourself. It isn't that difficult. It amounts to careful cleaning and repainting. It is NOT a rocket science.....

At least give it a shot, take your time, and have some fun. If a particular part is overwhelming then send just that piece in for repair. Take photos if you are unsure of reassembly.

Painting the cluster black is no big deal. Clean it well and repaint. Mask the edges. The raised lettering and chrome rings get painted and then you can carefully scrape, with plastic or fingernail, the paint from the high points of them.

The internal Light blue and Green can be repainted.

Instrument faces can be cleaned with Windex and Q-tips in close areas.

Steve; Thanks.I'm pretty handy mechanically but all thumbs artistically.I would rather just send out the entire dash to have it redone and then put it back in finished.Everything works and it is a 71k miles original with all the data,327/350,factory knock offs, etc.Still, time takes its toll.I am doing a gradual frame on as I like driving the car.The last frame-off I did became a hanger queen and I don't want that to happen.Would you send it to D&M or to Ecklers or whom? Thanks for your response.

Michael, There isn't anything "artistic", other than possibly repainting the yellow orange etc. You could probably redo it in a matter of days.... including letting the paint dry.....

I recommend D&M, however, I haven't had anything done lately........
