Corvette bolts SOLD for $375 each!!!!!!!??????

Apparently, the wisest investment available in commerce today is 42-year-old Corvette bolts. EXACT duplicates of those bolts can be made today, from scratch, including steel, heat treatment, plating, heading, tooling, rolling, lock, stock, and barrel, for about 8 cents each. (& that might be on the high side)

Next time somebody wants to pay that much, email me, I'll make 'em by the thousands and and sell 'em to you for only $350 each.....free delivery....

Personally,I would gladly pay $25 more for a genuine part as opposed to an EXACT duplicate part, because every EXACT duplicate I've ever seen never really is. I think that there are a lot of people who place a vastly greater value on factory originality over the "appearance" of factory originality.
Now-have you considered having the repro's made in China,or somewhere to get the profit margin way up???
If you could sell them for, say, $75- you might have something.......
    Regards-EJ

Thanks for the comments EJ. I was being a bit facetious there, I don't really have any interest in selling any more bolts, even for $75 each.

While I tend to agree that virtually all complex repops have some telling characteristic, this part would be pretty easy to replicate very precisely. If somebody needs a couple (and asks nicely), I might even whip a few up, just to see how close I can get.

I'm not sure you are correct.....Rumor has it that one bolt sold for $749 and the other one only cost $1.

I was thinking about parting out all the pieces of my car and selling each one slowly and painfully on FleaBay.

It would/could add up to something like this years Deficit.

Mike, I need two for my Tri power air cleaner. I wasnt going as far as to find the correct bolts for the air cleaner, and will probably never get my car judged but Id like to see how close you can come. i dont have any originals to compare to though.

                Ned,

I'm not sure the "FC" parts were used on '69 cars,( I thought somebody said they were '67 only). Can somebody tell us whether the "FC" head marking is correct for a '69 car? I'd hate to make a special part for the wrong car, then I'd have to sell it for a fortune....

                Thanks, Mike

The FP's would not be the best match for a 69. I would use the LF's. Please remember this is just my personal observation over the years. And as I had said earlier in a related thread the LF's turn up here and there. I have a few sets of those now and I usually pick up 1-2 dozen sets at the swap meets and thier coming up soon.
I also have stashed a few sets of the A's that Steve refrenced in the other thread also so don't lose heart you should be able to find a set for your car.

"LF" parts are no challenge to make (I've got hundreds of samples of their heads in my office), but, Lang Fastener is still in business, so it's not strictly legal to use their head marking on a new part. This is supposed to be fun, not illegal, so, I'll have to think of a way to get their permission...I'll let you know.

Mike, Thanks, but don't do it if its illegeal, theyll be knocking at my door to take the car as evidence !!! No I dont think they would go that far. Youre not stealing it from them, just modifying a part they already have if you shorten an existing bolt. i guess a lawyer could make it sound alot different though.

I thought about this a bit since the last posts: while it wouldn't be proper to duplicate the Lang head marking (since they're still in business), I'd guess that you could alter the threads of another of their parts to match the old part without an issue. If you sold them in any large volume (75 or more at a time), you'd have to mark them somewhere on the part with your own insignia, (which you'd have to register with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office), but for small quantities you wouldn't have to do this.

If somebody's got a real part to loan me, or sends me some really good pictures (from several angles) of the LF part, I'll see how close I can come in altering another Lang part.

Quality reproduction bolts that can't be told from the originals are inferior? No wonder I don't have my car judged. By the way, before you start throwing stones. I bought my '67 Coupe (350 HP) new from Village Chevrolet in Wayzata, MN in March of 1967 and took delivery the second week of June 1967.

                            Dennis,

Tell us about your 67. I like to hear REAL stories. You know, like "Real Stories of the FBI".
