I can tell from your question that you know virtually nothing about motor oil, and your head is likely full of myths and misinformation, but you are certainly not alone as this is the case for the vast majority of the motoring public including car enthusiasts.
You may be new enough to NCRS to not have received the Summer 2008 issue of The Corvette Restorer. If you did receive it, dig it out, read and study the oil article in detail.
If you don't have that issue, a slightly edited version published in another club publication is available on the Web as a pdf.
The article begins on page 3.
I also strongly suggest that you take the Web based courses that are referenced in the article and download and read the referenced API 1509 document.
