I get a dash lamp (headlight indicator) at the initial activation but it turns off before the eyes are completely open and remains off. Anyone have this issue before and can steer me towards the problem? Thanks, Mike

Re: 71 headlight indicator
It could be the integrity of your car's wiring... The headlight warning indicator (NOT the hi beam indicator) illuminates when the headlights are turned ON, but the headlight buckets haven't rotated to their fully open state(s).
Each headlight bucket has a microswitch that reports whether that bucket is open or closed. There are mechanical adjustments... It takes both switches to report the buckets are raised to turn the warning indicator off.
But, aged original microswitches are prone to fracture from plastic fatigue. Fortunately, if that's your problem, there are now reasonably priced reproduction microswitches available which wasn't the case several years ago.
So, the problem could lie in one or both HL bucket micro switches, the wiring harness, or up in your dash where the wiring 'talks' to the headlight switch, the warning indicator and the microswitches- Top

Re: 71 headlight indicator
Thank you Jack. Scary, but helpful information. I guess I'll start at the micros and work my way inboard. Thanks again, Mike- Top
