    Exhaust System for a 1960

Would the correct system for a 245HP be the round off-road mufflers with no crossover pipe ? The Corvette Central catalog believes the 245HP had the crossover pipe and oval mufflers.

Any difference in the quality or fit from the kits sold by Paragon or Corvette Central ?

Are most buying the aluminized systems for cars that are driven more than judged ?

How many hours does it take to install these systems ?

Any gotchas with the installation ?

Mark, can't tell you what's correct for a '60. But can tell you the Corvette Central exhaust systems fit well on 57's. When installing put a 1/2 inch plywood shim under pipes where they go through the frame and any other place they might touch. That will provide good clearance and position. Then your good to go to tighten them up. Gary....

      Hi Mark,

My January 1959 car is a 245 hp with I believe still the original exhaust. It has the oval mufflers with no sign of ever having a cross over pipe. It sounds like you are making great progress on your car. Congratulations!
      Best,
      Rick

I think I will go with oval mufflers and no crossover which is completely different than what Corvette Centrals says here for 58-60 cars:

The judging manual on pg 61 says the crossover was used for 290FI and the 270 engines and pg 84 it says the mufflers were oval for regular camshaft engines and round for high lift. This is consistent with what Rick is saying.

I just finished installing a system from Corvette Central on my '61 and am very pleased. It went together easily and fits and looks great. Cheers.

Aluminized exhaust with oval mufflers and no crossover pipe (base 230 hp engine)

'60 with 245hp engine would have come with oval mufflers and definitely no crossover.

                    Mark,
With 2 of us working it took about 4 hours. I got the deluxe kit with all new hangers and brackets and put new ground straps on. We had to cut about an inch off one of the pipes, but other than that it went together nicely. I have an assembly manual(AIM) and had to look at it a few times, but had no problems.
                    Cheers, and good luck.
