    "69 door ajar switch

Can anyone tell me the proper way to remove the 2 wires from the plastic end of the door ajar switch without cutting them or damaging the plastic holder? The switches unscrewed very easily from the mounting plate but I was afraid to pry or twist anything without some advise from you all. As always, thanks for your help.

The ends of the wires have little copper/brass pop in connectors with little "fold over" barbs on the ends.

You need to push the little ends flat, then pull the connector out.

Hope I described it adequately enough.

Often, they're so oxidized that attempts to separate the wiring slide contact from the switch terminal(s) results in side loading that breaks the nylon contact holding ring on the switch...

Some simply cut the wires to remove a switch then solder a splice (keeping it THIN) and insulating the spliced area (shrink wrap, liquid electrical tape, Etc.) to avoid damaging a rather rare SX head marked original switch...

        Hi Jeff,
Here's a picture of the tiny connectors that Chuck G. described.
I had good luck using them. There was enough wire to cut the old connectors off and crimp the new connectors on.
        Regards,
        Alan

Jeff, if you decide to attempt the removal and lose a clip in the process, let me know. I picked some up @ Paragon some time ago and have some extras. I can run them over to you when convenient for you.

PS: they're not easy to do. If I had the choice, I'd cut wire/splice back together.

                  Re: "69 door ajar switch

Thanks all for the responses. The ends of the wires there now don't look much like the pictures Alan posted. It almost looks like a "blob" of solder on the ends. I am going to remove the rear wheel and open up the access panel and see what is inside. I seem to remember that many years ago I took these out and had to remove the mounting plate and re-rivet it back due to rust. I may have cut the wires in there and spliced them back but I'm not sure. I think this might be the best route to take although I HATE to cut original wiring. Again thanks for your help. Don: I would love to get a look at those terminal ends before I cut anything. Do you think Terminal Supply in Troy might have them?

Yup. The ones I have are identical to those pictured in Alan's post. I tried Terminal Supply without luck. Picked mine up on a regular field trip to Paragon. They have Lectric Limited's label right on the package. I looked at mine last night and found that I only have one connector left on the strip. You're welcome to it, hoewever, I think you'll need more as it took me several tries to get the installation right, therefore, there's a bit of waste. I'm planning a trip to Paragon again on Saturday and can get some for you if you want. Lemme know.

                      Hi Jeff,
Once you see the tiny connectors close-up, and not yet installed, it's pretty easy to see how they work, so you might give them a try.
There is an ORIGINAL wrap of 'cloth' electrical tape on the wires just beyond the switch. If I was going to need to do a splice I know where I'd do it. You can just see it in this picture.
                      Regards,
                      Alan

Thanks for posting the photo. It is now obvious that what I have to do is to open the access panel and just cut the wire to remove the switch. Thanks all for your help.
