My 72 small block has a wb bolt. It was Bloomington survivor certified this summer.

Exact text of the JG reads:

"...The bolt is almost always zinc or cadmium plated with a WB head mark and three radial lines (grade 5)..."

Note the text does NOT say all Corvettes used this fastener ('almost always' is a pretty clear disclaimer). GM had more than one supplier of a given fastener!

If it looks original to your car -- go with it. As Jack notes the judging manual allows for other than WB headmark, and for good reason. That bolt, as installed at the factory, will ALWAYS have the three lines -- grade 5. Count on that.

            Ed,

WB is a very common head. I have seen L5, TR, RBW, RSC, NAT and many others (all grade 5)

                Bryan,

I have not seen that as an original headmarking on 72 or earlier cars I don't know about mid 70's but I think that is a hardware store brand. I can't say for sure as you are right at the break off of cars that I have worked on at 72.

                  Rich,
Thanks for the reply! If that's the case, I'll keep an eye out for a bolt with the more common head marking.
