Re: CRANE cams closed
Clem:
This is a sad day. They were an excellent cam company with excellent products. I remember them when they were first known as Crane Engineering. Were any (special) reasons listed for the closure....besides the obvious.
I guess many of the old cam companies are now gone: Crane, Clay Smith, Racer Brown, General Kinetics, Sig Erson, Engle, and ......
What about Isky and Crower? Are they still producing anything?

Re: CRANE cams closed
don't know about those other co. crane was bought out by some co. and i bet the debt they got into is hurting them. look for other speed equipment co to close also. the discretionary money for speed parts is going to become scarce- Top

Re: CRANE cams closed
Besides absolutely shocking. I would say its very depressing. You know I read some place and also heard from a buddy that Crane Cam was going to be the new supplier for NASCAR!!! Guess you can squelch that rumor.- Top

Re: CRANE cams closed
Shocking and sad! Depressing, too!
Crane was one of two cam manufacturers I recommend for OE replacement cams and ground the special cams I designed. Now I have no source.
They have an extensive library of lobe masters including most of the early SB and BB OE lobes. If anyone knows what becomes of these assets, please let us know.
I certainly hope they are not scrapped!
I wonder if they lost the GMPP contract. In fact, given GM's situation I wonder if GMPP will be around much longer.

Re: CRANE cams closed
All-----
The thing I can't figure out is this: until Crane was purchased by the other company about 3 years ago, they were an EMPLOYEE-OWNED company. So, why did the employees sell the company and their employment future at that time?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: CRANE cams closed
When I first read about Crane's possible demise I immediately ordered an L88 cam from Jegs. They say that it's on the way, so they must have some in stock. I don't know what I'll do with it, but ordering it was my first reaction when I heard of this sad loss.- Top

Re: CRANE cams closed
Anyone hearing anything new on this? PAC Racing Springs supplies Crane with most, if not all of their valve springs, so obviously PAC has a keen interest in learning of Crane's status. We're not getting return calls or emails from Crane.Last edited by Don L.; February 27, 2009, 07:55 PM.Don Lowe
