'75 with A/C Fan Shroud Installation

I'm buttoning up the last few details on the '75, and I may have jumped the gun. Last weekend, I installed the new radiator, the condenser coil, and all hoses...the plan was to drop the shroud in this weekend.....yeah, right.
I checked the archives, and conventional wisdom is to remove the rh upper control arm, which I can do, but after looking and measuring, it looks like the sway bar could be removed, and get it in from the bottom....Has anyone tried that route? Everything is on the motor except the fan.

    Thanks for the help,

    Tommy

You can remove the headlight vacumn canisters on A/C cars and tilt the radiator suppoort forward with just the bottom bolts in but loose or remove the RH upper control arm. If you find another way we are all ears.

It looks like removing the upper control arm will be the best route...no use trying to re-invent the wheel.

      Thanks for the help.

Do it the old fashion way...or the way the book says...remove the support and mount it all together then put it in..

            Steve,

I'm afraid that there are no shortcuts on this one. I removed the RH upper control arm, which didn't free up nearly enough room. Finally, with the control arm removed, I removed the condenser coil ( system not yet charged up anyway ), removed the 6 radiator support "body bolts", and loosened the 2 bottom support/chassis bolts, which allowed me to move the support top forward 4 or 5 inches. It was still VERY tight, and stressful since the radiator WAS new and unblemished before this operation. Even if you were to remove the entire support, and try to install the shroud/radiator/support as a single unit, you will have plenty of interference with the water pump and other accessories....My advice: Start fresh, have plenty of cardboard, padding, strong hands, and patience...I can drop a body faster and easier than this project!

A friend and I installed my rad/support/shroud as a unit and I agree with Ken, it was not really a problem. My car is a non a/c so that could be the difference. We had the hood off and the fan/pulleys off the car.

At the risk of sounding like a crybaby, I may be a little sensitive on this one since the radiator and support had already been in and out 3 times due to a CC replacement support that wasn't sized or drilled correctly, BEFORE I realized that it had to come out for shroud installation....I should have found the right book....but hey, it's only a fan shroud, right?

                  Sure glad it's finished...

PS: CC replaced the support ( purchased in Oct 07 ) with no problem.
