    Edward-----

The tube section of small block half-shafts was natural, extruded steel. The appearance varied from a more-or-less "shiny" steel to a darker but smooth finish. I defy ANYONE to reproduce this finish in EXACTLY original appearance.

Big block half shafts were shot-peened and this results in the finish that some might describe as "alligator" (although I'm not one of the ones that would so-describe it). This finish is EASY to duplicate----just have the half shafts shot-peened.

Thanks Joe, I Dont Think Ill Be Able To Do The Natuarl Finish As New, But Ill Try To Reproduce Best Possiable, Do You Think The Shot Pened Would Pass Judging Since Thats What There Saying In Jm.

        Edward----

I don't know; I suppose it would depend on the judge. I don't do any judging so I'm totally unqualified to pass judgement on this one.

                Ed,

I've bead blasted, and then used steel wool to "polish" the tubes. The end result looks very good. If you're anal you can use bluing solution to fake the heat effect of the welds.

Do a search - there was an excellent thread with pictures & tips in the last 2 months.
