    Messed up Carters on a 57 - Repair-Parts Recommendation?

Okay numbers Guys, it seems I might have the correct tops (air horns) but incorrect bases for my 245 hp, 1957 restoration project. Tops are 6-1299 but one body is 0-207, the other is 0-1221. Several questions

    1) What are they off of?
    2) Where can I find correct ones without overpaying
    3) What is the consensus for rebuilding these? Who should I use?

    Thanks a million

Place a wanted ad in the driveline for the carbs or rebuidable cores. You will need 049 main bodies.

Order rebuild kits and do the rebuild yourself.

I forget the correct# for the cast iron bases but someone else will advise I'm sure. Maybe you already have them. 1049 main bodies will work but I believe they are actually from 58.

Ken, I'm not sure what bodies you have, or what they should be, but.....

Make sure you have the correct "thin" cast iron bases for your dual fours. Single four carbs have a thicker cast iron base than those for duals. If your carbs have the thick base you may have air cleaner to hood clearance issues. I don't have a 57 JG, but I think the base is cast 1-1387B for dual fours. If you have the base off, the numbers are cast facing up, near the linkage area. This is not to be confused with the stamped numbers on the base to manifold mating surface. Not sure what those are.

Below is a photo of a 57 single four carb I had to show you where the cast# is. This base is 1-1386 which is the thicker base.

        Ken,
I rebuilt a 57 frame up that I just sold. It was a Duntov award car. From all of my notes and judging sheets my 270 Carters were correct. The following is a breakdown of both the 270 and 245hp two-fours:

        Air Horn-6-1200
        Main Body-0-049
        Base (without idle air screws)casting-1-1387B

        I hope this helps.

My bases are 1-1446, so it looks like I need to look for essentially two complete carbs, ouch, this is going to be expensive I think!
