Could someone please post part numbers of crankshafts for 1958-1960 283's. I know the 1958 has a rope rear main seal but is the crank the same as 59 & 60? Will newer cranks from 283's also work? Thanks in advance.

Re: C-1 Crankshaft
According to the 1961 P&A cranks all 55-61 std shift cranks were forged #3735236 and all 57-61 AT were forged 3727449. The only 283-302 small journal crank I would avoid would be the limited production cast crank used in the mid 60's. If you look at the rope seal crank make sure there is no wear in that area.

I believe that the 283 cranks used for either rope type or neoprene seals were machined the same. I'm not 100% sure about this, but that's what I recall. The blocks are machined differently, but the cranks are the same.
I believe any of the following forgings will work. However, understand that these forgings were machined into different FINISHED part number cranks. Crankshaft finished part numbers appear nowhere on the crank. So, there may be some differences from one to another, even of the same forging number. In general, though, I think the differences involve balance. If you have the reciprocating assembly custom-balanced (as you ALWAYS should), you should "zero out" any of these balance differences. Balance MIGHT get expensive for some if mallory metal has to be used.
