    1970 Engine Harness questions

I have a couple questions about my engine harness - its on an automatic, LS5 car with AC, PW, and alarm. The harness has been butchered by previous owner. I am trying to figure out what to salvage so that I can reuse what I will need to once I get a new harness:

    - I have a red wire with white stripe coming off of w/w limit switch connector at firewall. The AIM shows it as being connected to the wiper motor (see page D2 of UPC 12, extreme right hand side of page, about half-way up). This was disconnected on my car, and I can't see where it would plug into on wiper motor. Does anyone know exactly where it goes?
    - If anyone can see the alarm wiring along firewall on your car... Page A2 of UA6 (alarm option) in AIM shows the two white wires coming from the hood alarm switch, going thru the firewall, then back out into the engine bay (via the w/w washer hose port?). One of the wires continues along firewall before it once again enters firewall next to steering column. The other wire gets grounded at w/w motor. Do you see the wires exposed and do they run in this fashion? I ask because the wires are wrapped in the engine harness in my car, and are routed in different manner. And the ground plug is not on my w/w motor.
    - There are five references to TCS components on same page D2 of UPC 12 of AIM. (1) The TCS sol - I assume is the solenoid on the manifold. (2) The temp switch shows 3 terminals, so I assume this is the relay on firewall next to brake booster. (3) The TCS switch is a single terminal device and I assume its the switch on the transmission. There are two more devices shown. One it the TCS relay - another single terminal device. The other is a TCS Temp switch - a two terminal device. Anyone know what these devices are an where they are located? The chassis service manual didn't get into enough detail.
    - It looks like parts of the PW and alarm harnesses are taped together to the engine harness along the firewall - is that correct? Does anyone have any pictures of what it should look like?
    - Assuming they are supposed to be taped together, any suggestions for places to buy reproduction harness tape so I can re-do this when I get the new harness?
    - The orange trans kickdown switch wire on my car was cut as it passes thru into engine compartement. Anyone know where this wire goes to and if it is part of an engine harness?

    Re: 1970 Engine Harness questions

I have a 71 LT-1 and the wiring harness had been cut up and things disconnected. My advice is buy a new engine wiring harness from Lectric Limited (about $200) and then buy the two oOSOEZ wiring diagrams that are laminated in plastic from Doc Rebuild. The charts make it very easy to replace the harness, The hardest parts disconnecting and connecting the harness at the firewall. Hope this helps. Paul

Thanks. Does the diagram from Doc Rebuild show how to tie harnesses together (eg: alarm and PW harnesses taped to engine harness) and how to route the wiring? Steve

        Re: 1970 Engine Harness questions

It shows which wires make up each separate harness, the color of the wires, a picture of each connector. Shows headlamp harness , ignition harness, transistorized ignition, power windows, A/C, rear harness with alarm, TCS temp SW. jumper, and rear defogger. The other chart is the dash harness and fuse box connections. Each harness is separate in my car. Hope this helps.
