    Re: NOS Tires

Hats off to Kelsey Tire Co. for putting out a quality and accurate reproduction. My dilema is this. My 63 still has the original spare which has never been on the road and still has the green film on it that protects? the whitewall. It happens to be a Deluxe Champion Firestone. So who makes an exact replica, except for the DOT #'s of course, that you other guys are using and except as the best Firestone tire available.

      Re: NOS Tires

      Perry,
Your road wheels do NOT have to match the spare in brand or style. That rule was made to encourage folks with their original spare to bring it to the show. We want to see those.

All that said your personal desires may be to match the brand and style more closely -- that is YOUR choice.

          Re: NOS Tires

I can't believe how far back this thread got buried already. Thanks, Terry, for the judging manual ruling. I did purchase a set of reproduction Firestone tires way back in the early 80's and I think they were close to the originals. I believe they were made by Vintage Tire. Does that sound right? I will pull my spare out and compare them. I also purchased a set of The same tires in a 7.50-14 for my 57 Nomad at about the same time. I have hated both sets since day one. The reason is because they were "Gum Dipped" as were the originals and trying to keep them clean is impossible. They turn gummy as the term ""Gum Dipped" implies. The only way I can get them clean is to use something like lacquar thinner on a rag and wear off the skin from my fingers trying to get into all the crevices. Anybody have any suggestions on how to clean these tires? This is the reason I asked if there was a good repro. Firestone tire on the market today.
