I think you 72' should be the same as my 74' with AC. On mine there is a rubber wellnut that is inserted into the rear wall of the main air distribution box (the box that holds the heater core and the air selector valve that selects either heat or AC). A small closed box type steel bracket is attached to the wellnut and this bracket has the hole to which the footwell lamp is attached.
