    C2 bumpers

I am trying to determine if the bumpers I have are OEM or reproduction. What is the thickness of an original front bumper? Are the rear bumpers the same thickness?
    Thank you for your help.

    Re: C2 bumpers

Randy, I'm finding my original 64's are about 0.1" - do see some areas close to 0.75 but mostly they are running 0.1". Now these have been re-chromed, but the chrome was good before so any prep work was minor. So at least you have a number to start with. Wonder if somebody has the GM drawing which should spell out the number.

      Re: C2 bumpers

I just had a chance to measure the thickness of my bumpers. Both the front and back ones are around 0.10". The license bar is approximately 3/16"(.1875) thick. The judging guide says that the bumpers and license bar should be about the same thickness. If this is correct, either the bar or bumpers must not be original. What is your vote?

      Thank you,

      Randy

Randy, just checked the two original both at the 3/16" and thicker than the bumpers.
All these parts are original not NOS and repro were not around (I think) in the early 70's.

Randy, the license bar should be a lot thicker gauge metal than the bumpers. Bumpers are 12 or 13 gauge. But you have the deep draw of the steel in forming them that thins it and the plating that makes it thicker. So accurate micrometer readings are subjective. Tolerance wise the 12 and 13 gauge can overlap by a couple thousands due to the drawing. 12 gauge is .1046 plus/minus .006 and 13 gauge is .0897 plus/minus .006 in sheet form. In the day the sheet stock was run on the thin side of tolerance.

            Re: C2 bumpers

Thank you for the information. The front bumpers and license bar that I have were probably purchased in 1970. I took several readings of the bumpers with a micrometer, none were the same, but the average thicknesses conform with the 12 and 13 ga requirements.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, what is the gage for a repro bumper?
