    C-3 AC Compressor...trying to identify?

    I'm trying to identify the year/application for the following AC compressor. It's currently installed on my '74, 454, 4-speed, Coupe, with a build date of Jan. 11, 1974. The label contains the following information;

    Delco Air
    Delco Air Conditioning Division
    General Motors, Dayton, OH
    SAE J639
    Code 040721
    Refrigerant Oil .28Kg (10.0 oz)
    Model Number 1131262 (upside down - 262)

    Thanks...would appreciate any insights.

    You got the "old style" axial R6-comp in your car, right?

    The code and model number are the important ones...

    Code 040721 deciphers the comp's build date as Apr 07 72 (82? 92? 2002?) shift 1.

    The model number denotes (as the name says) the model your comp is.

    Sorry, that I cannot give any details on your model specifics.

      I doubt the label is from 1972 -- I don't think they were putting metric measurements on the labels in 1972, but I could be wrong.

        I agree with Terry, this is probably a replacement AC compressor from a slightly later era when the kick was to go metric... Remember, GM wasn't the only car mfgr to use A6 compressors. Others included Daimler Benz who WOULD have wanted the metric version.

          Re: C-3 AC Compressor...trying to identify?

          The compressor labels used on foreign cars including Mercedes have a warning that states that all tapped holes are metric. I got a compressor taken from a Mercedes from the Benz repair shop that shares my shop building and was surprised to see this warning. So more than likely this was used on an American car but a later one.

            Everyone...thanks. I neglected to note the following additional script on the label;

            Notice - Mounting holes have metric threads.
