rear leaf springs and shackles on a 62

Does the rear springs suppose to go up on top? I have seen two different pictures where the rear springs do not go over the top of the rear crossmember. One of the pictures in the noland adams restoration manual shows the rear spring going below the rear crossmember.

    Is this right?

I'm really sure that they wouldn't have put the indents in the top of the crossmember in the exact spot that they did if the spring was not to be above the crossmember. That was the design.
When you put the spring below, and you flip the shackle over (so that the shackle is above the spring, rather than below, it elevates the rear of the car and compensates for rear spring sag. That's why you'll see some with the spring incorrectly below the rear crossmember.

That makes sense... I have seen some cars where the springs were sagging and it looked like the backend of the car was lower than the front end. I was just surprised to see a picture referencing the rear springs or rear end in the restoration manual. Then I saw someone else restored chassis where the same thing was done so I just want to make sure what I did was correct. I even saw one car where the shackles were on reversed the studs were pointed inwards.

I would rather ask now and make sure it is correct then finding out later on something was put on wrong.

          Thanks for the information.
