    1955 Press Release

This release was just published in the latest Restorer (thanks Vinnie), in my article "Production Line of Tomorrow". My question now is what to do with the original? Donate it to who/where?

    Thanks for your suggestions,

    Kevin

Steve, I think it's pretty neat too!

I do plan on donating it, but
it's really Chevrolet history not exactly Corvette specific???

      Thoughts?

      Regards,

      Kevin

        Re: 1955 Press Release

Side Note: In Ken Kayser's terrific presentation (200 slides) on development of fuel injection at our Michigan Chapter Tech Session last Sunday, he had a photo of the machine described in the "Secret of Balance" section of that 1955 press release, and noted that it lived a very short life and was removed from production after less than a year.

The block (with crank, rods, and pistons) entered the machine, the crank was rotated by the machine to identify out-of-balance, then big air-feed drills mounted on slides on both sides automatically drilled the crank counterweights to make the appropriate correction.

Unfortunately, this operation tended to scatter drilling chips and dirt inside the crankcase, with predictable results; the machines were removed, and balance was achieved from then on as it had been before, by the individual components being manufactured to weight and balance specifications.
