63_Moving battery tray to driver side for AC

63 convertible_adding AC to originally non AC car

I ordered the battery tray for the driver side. The driver side tray installs with the long dimension front to back. The long dimension of the tray is about 10.25". The measured distance (on the driver side) from the front edge of the #1 Body Mount to the back of the fender well is only 9", battery tray "no fittee". Comments?

AC cars have a hole cut in the innerfender with an access cover that is relieved for clearance.

Wayne_Thnaks for the comment and photos.

So my options are to do some surgery on the driver side inner fender, or leave the battery where it is, and deal with the difficult access to the battery caused by the extra hoses from the AC?

        Steve:

That's about it. The fiberglass cover in Wayne's pictures is available in reproduction if you cannot find an original.

On the plus side, it does make battery access/replacement very easy. However, you need to search a bit to find a battery that will fit without cover interference. The reinforcement ribs on some of the current battery cases can be a problem. I finally went to a Delco R-59 acid-gel reproduction battery (from Restoration Battery) to get the correct fit.

Thanks. I'll look for the cover.
