    C1 Emblem Installation

Only the upper studs protrude sufficiently to mount the speed nut when installing both the hood and trunk emblems. The contours do not permit the others to extend sufficiently (minimal tips are available) to begin cutting threads; even when leaving the gasket off and applying pressure to create a flat mating surface between ring and car. One solution is to find a speed nut smaller than the standard 1/8" diameter to cut threads. I do not know if one exists? Any other tips? Thanks.

Assuming that we are talking about 1958-60, I suspect you need to take a look at the pieces you're trying to install - enough of these cars have made it to the show field that we KNOW they can be installed. Two gaskets? A new repro from the other end of Taiwan?

The ring goes on the outside of the car, the emblem and tin go under the body.

to effect smaller id speed nuts, lay yours on an anvil and tap the openings tighter together with a ball peen hammer. mike

Also, don't those attachments use the special round, flat speed nuts with the bent-up "ears" that require a special tool (not the usual hex hat-shaped stamped speed nuts)?

As usual John is correct. If you try to use the "hat" style nuts you will consider the studs as "too short".

            Good luck

I have the same problem on my '57. Brand new "Trim Parts" front emblem bezel and the correct speed nuts and I could only get 2 of them started. When placed next to the original bezels the studs on the repros are slightly shorter.
