Re: Another round of C3 grill questions, sorry

I have a 70' and in one of the restoration guides it said the grills were painted Argent Silver and the front edges were chromed. There are 2 different Argent Silvers one with a green hue. I stripped my grills that were painted black and found that they were silver inside so I polished them. The center grill I painted Argent Silver. I have seen original 1970's with both dark grey in the grill with the chrome edging exposed and left natural. I am now puzzled again. What is correct for a 70, the research that I have done says that the grills are different colors for a 70,71,72

Les, the center grill, if I am not mistaken, was always darker than the outer grills. the first photo is one with a flash and the second is without.

My own opinion, having used the same paint to paint center and outer grilles at the same time, is that the difference in "color"/appearance is due to the chrome vs. pot metal base, not due to actual paint color differences.

              Here you go.
Left front grille of a somewhat early 72 (around 8000 S/N).
Note that the portion on the left side of the picture is the center vertical "spear" that extends down from the bumper. However, you can see the color on that piece and the grille.

I'll try for better pics if anyone needs them.

That makes me feel better as the OEM paint is a real good match. Thanks Patrick

Are the last pictures (far right) the unmasked photos? I ask because I believe the chrome should be showing on the lower surface of the horizontal step as well as the front face of the grilles.
Were the sides and top step painted. I removed the top coat of paint off my grilles. To find the original paint underneath, it appears that the steps [top, sides and bottom] had chrome showing.

I believe yes. Look at Patrick's photo of 2-17.
