    '71 key buzzer switch problem!

I am replacing the key buzzer switch in the column of my '71. I have a new switch, pn#7804414 but it came without the spring clip to hold it in place.

I believe the pn is 7804419? Anyone have any idea where to find one of these? I checked with CC and Paragon, no luck.

    Thanks, Ken

The switch you have and the clip you mention are the correct parts IF you have a standard steering column. If you are replacing the switch, why can't you just re-use the existing clip?

      Ken,
My 71 came to me with the key buzzer not functioning. The horn rerlay over the dr. side front fender had a single wire with the "blade" connector. This wire had a poor contact and was the source of the problem. In the event your key switch doesn't solve the problem, look there. Mike

Few have the spring clip that held the steering column key-minder switch. Why? Because when the switch was replaced, the original spring clip was re-used.

But, not to fear! Just go to the scrap yard and find any 1971-76 Chevy with standard steering column (no tilt & no tele) and the clip inside is identical to that used on your Corvette.

Doc Rebuild lists a 78-79 standard steering column switch mounting spring as 2187408. The standard steering column changed its design somewhat in 1977 (dimmer switch, finger inhibitor lever, etc.) Your information says that the 7804419 is the correct retaining spring for your 1971 buzzer switch.

I have a parts list for a 1977 standard column that calls out 7804419 as the correct retaining spring for that column. So I am very confident that the same spring would also work with the 78-79 column. I think that Doc Rebuild's call out is incorrect. BTW, he does call out the same key buzzer switch from 1969-1979 which would also lead you to believer that the retaining spring would be the same.

Thanks to everyone for the replys, I will have some time tomorrow to search it out a bit more.

Joe, many years ago when the car was less than a year old, someone tried to steal it and slide hammered the ignition lock and damaged the buzzer switch. I had the ignition switch replaced but never worried about the PITA key buzzer. Now, I want "everything" working as it should and to
my surpise today the clip was missing when I removed the old switch.

            Thanks again,,,Ken
