    69 427/400 intake bolts ??

Since the 1969 400HP had the front engine lift bracket removed from the factory, should the two bolts that held that bracket on be the Black bolts that were used on other big blocks or should they match the 14 other manifold bolts, zinc with the flange?

Ned -- As a practical matter I doubt the head marks for the lifting bracket bolts would be the same after the bracket was R & R because, while all the intake bolts, including the two or the lift bracket, went into position at Tonawanda; after removal of the lift bracket at St. Louis shorter bolts would be installed. The chances of those having the same head mark as those installed at Tonawanda would be remote. The only salvation in all this is that it is unlikely that ALL the intake manifold fasteners had the same head mark anyway.

It could be the same company made several different sized fasteners for this application. It is a roll of the dice. Reminds me of Las Vegas

That is why replacement fastener kits, with all bolts having the same head mark, are a dead giveaway that the fasteners are reproduction. However, not all judges deduct for this. It all depends on the point of view of the judge.

I don't know if this helps or not but these are how my bolts were installed when I bought it back in 88. All head marking are the same except for the two that hold that bracket on so even though these bolts were all installed at Tonawanda, the two for the bracket are different anyways.

These are from the "correct" set I got from Paragon.

Im not trying to get too detailed with this but I just figured since it showed it might be important. Paragon has two sets that will work. One set has the two "odd" black bolts and one set has all the same "zinc". Since the tri power bracket has to be removed I thought they might just run those two odd bolts back in since they were already in hand. They cant be much longer, they are only going through the additional thickness of the engine lift bracket, 1/8" ?? Paragon doesnt list a set for the 69 400 hp engine. I think Ill go with the matching set and can always change the two out later if I need to. I dont even think Ill ever get the car judged but it never hurts to do it correct if you can.

Ned, those 2 odd bolts were used with thick washers under them .Approx.1/8".

Ned, if it's of any help. On my original 68 400hsp. they are all matching with a head marking of FP.
