    GF-48 Fuel Filter

We know the filter made a configuration change in '58 from the big dome to flat top version. The '58-60 JG simply says the flat top versions had "AC" embossed on the top while the '61-62 JG gets more specific, saying the AC emboss was on the inlet/outlet tunnel.

I've heard some say flat top filters with the AC emboss to the side of the inlet/outlet tunnel are service replacement parts. Then, I stumbled across this one at a local swap meet...

Note the casting clock on the bottom of the filter lid pretty clearly shows a casting date of 1957 and I can make out eight 'tick' marks surrounding the year which would date this part to August, 1957. Anybody know which version(s) of the flat top GF-48 filter are considered correct for '58-60 (AC embossed on the side vs. AC embossed on the inlet/outlet tunnel)?

Fourty one looks and no comments? I gotta believe there are some who've judged '58 Corvettes and rendered originality calls on the configuration of the GF-48 filter...

      Jack,

Don't know if this will help or not but it sure confirms you find at the swap meet.

These are two GF-48's with the one on the left being in the original box. It is dated 1963. I have several with 63 and 64 dates. That's the one with the AC across the outlet.

The one on the right is like the one you found and they have dates from 57 to 58.

Doubt if anyone can really solve this question. Hope this helps out.

Thanks for the reply, Joe. It's interesting to note your dated parts agree with the swap meet piece I found in terms of where the AC emboss was located based on early vs. late mfgr. Perhaps that's why the current edition of the '58-60 JG book is silent on specifically where the AC logo appears and the '61-62 book puts it on the inlet/outlet tunnel. Running change?

Still, I'd like to hear from others who judge in the '58-60 division to see what they have to say on the subject...
