66 Tie Rod clamp and bolt finish

The 66 judging manual states that the tie rod end, sleeves and clamps are painted semi-gloss black. Does that include the clamp bolts and nuts? Should they be painted also? And why is no lockwasher shown on the AIM pg 208 A2? Am I missing something? Thanks for any help

The steering linkage assembly was coated with a black, asphaltic coating at the manufacturing plant. This coating included the clamps, bolts and nuts.

      Bill -

Where are you expecting to find a lockwasher - which attachment? Don't use the "page number", as they're all different depending on which vendor reproduced the A.I.M. - use the UPC number shown in the center of the title block, and the sheet number below that.

John, The UPC number is 9 A2 steering gear and linkage. It does not show a lock washer and I was wondering why no lock washer.

If you're referring to the tie rod clamp bolt nut, they were prevailing-torque Stover nuts, and didn't use lockwashers - the nuts are self-locking.

            William,

The AIM doesn't show the lock washer on the tie rod clamp bolt because the tie rod assembly arrived at the St Louis plant already assembled.

Pretty sure a standard nuts and lock washers were still being used for 66.
