    C3 Hood Hinges

Does anyone have a picture of what the hinges looked like from the factory? I am looking to see how much body color and black out was on them.
    Thanks

You could try a search of the archives to see if any are there. You can also try the 70 Corvette registry. There are some photos on that web site that I have seen.

At least in the '68-'72 era the hinges were pretty much blacked out with varying amounts of body color over spray on the side of the top half.

Thanks Bob, I also found some pictures from Patrick Hulst that shows those.
By the way, I sent your payment off today for my headlight actuators and can't wait to see what they look like. It is starting to warm up bigtime in Virginia and ready to get it back on the road.

It's going to vary from car to car... The hinges were installed when the car when through the paint booth. Body color coverage will vary with the 'aggressiveness' of that particular painter on that day.

Once the color was shot, the underside of the hood was blacked out, including the in-place hood hinges that now have some degree of body color on them. Blackout coverage will again vary with the aggressiveness of the painter who shot the blackout.

In general, the hood hinges were pretty much covered with blackout as a number of factory original cars have been seen with 'sloppy' blackout coverage extending to the outer edges of the hood in the area of the hinges and over onto the inside of the fender lip....

I hope Patrick doesn't mind, but here are a couple of pictures that he had. Is this rather typical?
            Thanks

A bit more body color than I usually see, but YELLOW stands out. Some other colors hide better, and as Jack said some days the body painter did better and some days the blackout operator did better.

One of the keys is that the body color went on first and the blackout last.

I think I have some pictures at home.

I didn't think you would mind Patrick. I will tell you that I have used to 50 or 60 pictures that I copied from you many times. Which brings us to the often mentioned data base of pictures. That would be nice.

here is one from a 72 that i parted out, no guarantee that it does not have additional paint on it from a repaint. I took this pic a while back, maybe I will try to dig out the hinge and also get a pic from the side.
