    67 Dash wiring question

Finishing up rewiring the car and I have a few "nuts and bolts" left over.
Well, actually a pair of brown wires that come together in a connector( near the radio) and are connected to a black male connector. I have the radio sent out at the moment, but I do not think it goes there. Looking at my wiring diagram, I'm still stumped. Help!

    Ray,

do you have speedminder or another electrical option ( I for get if power windows apply here) but it sounds like you are talking about the heavy gauge brown wire that connects to the capacitor by the ignition switch. On cars with no elcetrical power options it is a single male connector that plugs into the capacitor, but with cars with power options sometimes there is a double inlet and single outlet connector that piggy backs 2 wires together to plug into the capacitor.

    Hope this helps, Rich.

      Ray,

I just checked and as I thought A-31 power widows would also double up on the conneator to make it as you described.

Hi Rich, I do have power windows as you mention, but I dont understand what this plug would have to do with them. The power windows work now. Is there a power window capicitor that this plugs into? I cut the wire that was connected to it, a black male, covered connector. I do not remember (suprised?) what it was connected to!

Hi Rich, I looked on the power window wiring harness and I think you are correct. I went to the Zip Products catalog, page 122 list the capacitors for the car, none say power window related. Could it be known by another name? Take a look if you have the catalog. Thanks, Ray

            Ray,

The capasitor is on cars regardless of P/W or any other option (Check the Long Island Corvette web page and it will list it as the one that is located by the ignition switch).
All that power windows adds is a 2 into 1 connector into the capasitor as it also has a 12 gauge brown wire that plugs into it . All Main dash harnesses have a 12 gauge brown wire that connects to the capasitor, thats where you are getting the 2 brown wires.

The black wire you cut is the terminal end on the capasitor.

Thanx Rich! i will order one today. I had a friend helping me with this project, and I guess he cut the wire from the capacitor to the harness without tagging it. Always a problem when your project is spread over a month or two! Thanks again, Ray

                Ray -

Page over to Section U69, Sheet A4 in your Assembly Manual, and note the connection to the capacitor, item #5, at the lower left portion of the illustration. The solid line drawing shows the connection of the male terminal on the regular brown wire to the capacitor on a car without power windows. The dotted line on the capacitor shows the special male/female "piggyback" connector on the brown wire from the power window harness plugged into the capacitor, and the regular brown wire from the instrument panel harness plugged into the female end of the "piggyback" connector.

Hi John, thanks for the info. My assm manual pages do not seem to coincide with yours, but I understand what you are saying. A single brown wire for cars without power windows and a second brown wire if you do have power windows. I ordered a new capacitor from Zip products yesterday. I am sure I made a mental note to myself when I took all of the old harness out, but with the time seperation of 6 weeks or so my feeble brain lost that info!

Pay no attention to the hand-written or obviously typed-in "page numbers" in the Assembly Manual; those were added by whatever vendor reproduced the manual, and they're different from every vendor.

If you use the UPC number (top portion of the center of the title block at the bottom of the page) and the sheet number (bottom portion of the center of the title block) when referencing a page, anyone with the same year manual will be on the same sheet you are, regardless of the vendor the manuals are from.
