I am trying to set up a ZL1 (MA6 Heavy duty) dual disc clutch on a 1968 427 car. The first disc next to the fly wheel disengages fine but the second disc by the transmission hangs. I'm wondering if there is a set up method that anyone is aware of to properly align the clutch. Are shims required? Any advice would be much appreciated - thanks

I don't know how to deal with your problem. However, I don't think that any shims were originally used, at least none that were installed after the assembly was manufactured.
Also, the dual disc clutch was NEVER used for a ZL-1 or L-88. It was used ONLY for 1969 with L-71 and MA-6 and all 1971 LS-6 with manual transmission. That's it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: ZL1 Dual disc Clutch
Joe,
I realize that it was not a factory option for my car. I am restoring a Motion car that had an L88 short block and ZL1 clutch among other preformance mods installed in early 1970. The pressure plate is 10 spline so it is the correct one for the date of the original modifications. I have original GM invoice for the short block, as well as documentation of the Motion parts.
