'72 Side gills painting question

Hello All,

Were the side gills (air extractors - behind the front wheels) on a '72 on the car when painted or not? Should there be any body colour on the inside wheel wheels on the engine side?

Hi Kurt
The grills were not yet in place during body paint.
That opening and engine bay, including the inner fender panels were included in the "Blackout Process"

I think they were painted off-site with body color.
They were not buffed, the paint was kind of rough and (as told to me) were not a perfect match to the paint sprayed on the the body in St. Louis - different paint lots I think.

This is really a question for the folks who were in St. Louis plant.

Hi Kurt,
My 71, #6589, had some, but not much, exterior color under the blackout on the rear of the front fender wells, both sides.
There was also a little color on the cowl in the area of the electrical harness connection to the fuse block, and to the outside of the blower motor mounting on the passengers side, under the blackout.
