    Canadian Wonderbar repair? Weird symptoms...

    Hi,
My Wonderbar was previously rebuilt about ten years back. Last summer the seek feature began acting up, seems to work fine at the low end of the dial, but not past the center? Also; if you push on the tuning knob the pointer jumps to the left? All else works fine.
Anyone know of a good Canadian repair shop? The exchange rate sucks and I would like to get it done here if possible... Second choice would be someone in NY state?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Paul I suggest you get in touch with Dave Cantelon, he is located in Ontario and will probably be able to steer you towards someone to help you with your Wonderbar in eastern Canada. www.justradios.com

Pushing the tuning knob and having it jump left (reset) makes me think you have a 58-62 radio. That's undoubtedly a mechanical problem associated with the solenoid cocking switches Paul. The not working after half way could be just be a tube affecting the sensitivity or hysteresis to the seek control tube. Try checking the tubes if you know someone with a checker... you might get lucky.

And Terry, thanks for the kind words!

Thanks for the great replies and input.
The radio is a '62, sorry I forgot to mention it. If I manually tune it past the center of the dial, the wonderbar seems to work again, but it won't return at the end of the dial.
I'm going to be in Syracuse NY this week, and thought I could drop it at "Precision Stereo Repair", and then pick it up on my next trip. My thinking is that I'll avoid the potential of shipping damage, plus I'm also allowed $400 tax free at the border on the way back.
I'll post a separate thread to get feedback on Precision Stereo.
            Thanks again,
            Paul

I've never used this guy but see his ad in Old Autos all the time. The Olde Tyme Radio Centre 519-357-4304 Belgrave Ontario. Also wondered if RM could help you out.
