Side marker lights

I'm taking my 72 apart getting ready for paint and noticed 3 of the side markers are metal housing with SAE AP70 on the housing and API 70 on the lens and 1 was plastic with SAE AP2 3 Y on the lens. Which is wrong?

They might all be correct... The apparent date coding on lamp lens components appears to originate from when that particular plastic lens was FIRST designated for use to the SAE...

Most likely the plastic one is a 74-82 p/n 36257 or 37258 rear marker lamp. It could have been made in 73, 83 or 93 but has been discontinued recently.

All 70-72 p/n 3973639 or 3973640 front and 70-73 p/n 3973653 or 3973654 rear lamps had the metal housing including replacements from GM.

Reproductions are made by Trim Parts and can be purchased thru nearly any parts house.

The date on lenses is when the photometrics of the lens were first certified to meet SAE (and later, DOT) standards.
