    Keith -

Your camera should have a "macro" feature, usually identified by a little "flower" icon; check your camera's manual. It will usually let you shoot in focus down to an inch or two from the lens.

      Hi Keith,
I believe your beginning a project that people will find VERY interesting. Lots of uncertainty, work, $$$, and fun.
Taking the time to document what you find as it comes apart really pays off in the long run.
      Regards,
      Alan

I took Johns advise and read the manual on the camera. Some sucess with clearer closeups. Low light makes it tough still with any movement at all. Any advise on cleaning up the stamp pad? Or just wait till the block is cooked? Looks like someone checked the numbers a few years ago.

          Hey Keith,

Good to see that you have started on the LT-1.

Good luck with the restoration. I know it will look great based on how your other cars look.

          Speak to you later.

Before you send the cylinder case to the machine shop -- ask them how they will clean it. Some places use a blasting process that will destroy the surface finish on the stamp pad. That is not what you want to happen.

You also need to be sure they understand the value of the stamp pad to you. Some shops routinely surface the cylinder case on all their work. They want to be sure the heads will seat well. Of course such an action will be a disaster. Best to do your best to head that one off at the pass.
