Re: Door Inspection Tag (reproduction)
Billy,
Last year I was hunting the same item and used ECS Automotive concepts. My original was missing (repaint) so I could not compare. This source was said to be one of the better ones. As Terry mentioned, the judges can usually spot a repo. Good luck, Mike- Top

Re: Door Inspection Tag (reproduction)
When you don't have one what else can you do? I have read so many critiques about the correctness of the reproduction blue door sticker wording, font, etc. but I have seen some originals that vary greatly in font from sticker to sticker so buy a reproduction with the mylar overlay. Either way you're going to get dinged.
Contact this person for a blue door sticker. Be sure to ask if he has the mylar overlay. He will type the information needed. I believe he has three old typewriters of the era to make them as authentic as a reproduction sticker can get.

Re: Door Inspection Tag (reproduction)
Steve did a great job for me. I took a picture and sent it to him, he actually matched the smudge marks, a smear from a ribbon, and typed it crooked just like my original.

Re: Door Inspection Tag (reproduction)
For me, too. Twice, one for free because I lost the first one. You make the third or fourth person I've heard from who has done blue door sticker business with Steve who were all as equally impressed. Like I said....when you don't have one what do you do? Get the best reproduction you can find.- Top

Re: Door Inspection Tag (reproduction)
Of course that is what restorers do -- and our name says it all. No Corvette is ever perfect, even the lowest mileage one -- or even the one they built the last time the assembly plant was working. We should not expect any restoration to be perfect either. So what does a couple of points deduction matter?Terry- Top

Re: Door Inspection Tag (reproduction)
On the inspection tag on the inside of the drivers door what does the # in the upper right hand stand for, I understand the serial # across the bottom?
My 70 vette was produced A-23 which in 70 was Jan. 23, 1970- Top

Re: Door Inspection Tag (reproduction)
Thanks to D Scott, Pete, Terry, and everyone else, I have already sent Steve an e-mail and got a reply on the phone. Funny how things work out he only lives about 50 miles from me, and knew me thru other friends that we both know, as they say its a small world!- Top

Thanks for your many contributions to the TDB. You have been a great help to me and many others of us and a great source of humor. Keep it up.
I hope to see you at Killeen, Texas this year.- Top

Re: Door Inspection Tag (reproduction)
Scott,
Thanks for the kind words, and I am glad someone gets my often warped sense of humor.
I don't have my meet schedule firmed up for after the convention yet. I am going to try to make both TX and Mass, but I don't know if I can swing that with school. We will see.Terry- Top

Would there ever been a Corvette that rolled off the line in the day that would not loose any points if it were judged that day. I think not. Like any hobby the quest is for the unattainable. This is what sets us apart from the rest of the world. Good is not good enough.
