Date Code This Large DC 67 Rally

Can anyone tell me what they think the month/day code is for this 67 15 X 6 JK rally rim. I have seen this identical rim pictured in several other threads. Most of the cars were March/April build cars. What is your guess??? Thanks.

Re: Date Code This Large DC 67 Rally

All right, since no one seems interested here are some other pics of the rims that I have. These are all large DC rally rims with GM on all and KH on three. The two without the KH appear to have been worn off.

    3 Rally Rims marked 15 X 6 JK over 66 11 (see pic)
1 Rally Rim marked 15 X 6 JK no apparent date and the lettering is a
different stamp than the 3 66 11 rims (see pic)
1 Rally Rim marked 15 X 6 JK over 67 and some crazy squiggle (see close
    pic)

    I noticed a few things.

    1. There appear to be junction lines for each rim (see pic).
    2. The junction lines are different between different rims, and appear more similar if the rims are dated the same (ie. all the 66 11's look similar, but they are different from the other two rims
    3. With the inside of the rim facing you, the size/date stamps are right-side up and always located just to the right of this series of junction lines in about the same place
    4. The pattern of the stamping size, date, 8-logo, and KH-logo appear to be in the same identical pattern for same dated rims.

What are the junction lines? I assume this is where the rim was joined together. There appears to be a raised (2 ribs) central strip that has a space on each side and the 3 lines to one side and two lines to the other.

Does anyone know if all this info was on a single stamp, or multiple individual stamps? If you look at close-up pics you can see edges of stamps that might suggest individual stamps, or may "islands" on a single large stamp.

Still need some guesses on the 67 squiggle. I assume that it should represent a month, since it seems the 66 rims are marked 11, which would be November of 1966, early for my April 67 build, but within 5 months.

For those who have complete sets of KNOWN ORIGINAL rims are they all dated the same for a single car, or can they be mixed as above?

    Hoping to hear from someone.

Kirk, My vote is it's a 4 with a small scratch making the # difficult to read. Look at this DC wheel I have and the date. Keep in mind I have only had one cup of java this morning...

Yours looks a lot more like a 4 than mine, but I can definitely see what you mean.

          Kirk,
If you have ever seen the operation of the machine(s) that make(s) the wheels you will know that what you are calling a junction line is the weld seam that holds the circular part of the wheel together. The small differences you are seeing between wheels with different dates are due to machine set-up or maybe even different machines. That junction line is where the weld is that forms what started as a flat sheet of steel into the circular part of the wheel. I have some commitments this morning, so more later today.

The definative Corvette wheel research was done by Wendal Hans, and pinted in a four part series in The Restorer. As was my pactice when I was Editor, Wendels contact information is at the end of those stories. I know he sold his Corvette, and I have not been in touch with him in years -- but try to reach him with that info. I think he will have some answers for you.

Is it possible to get copies of those articles? Thanks.

              Kirk -

The "Restorer" CD is a terrific tool for that - they're searchable, and every article ever written (with photos) is only a click or two away.

I am a MAC guy and unfortunately most the discs are formatted for PC's and don't work on MAC's. Argh!

Back when that CD first came out, the producer told me it would work for either MAC or PC. In fact he was using a MAC to accept The Restorer from me in electronic format -- PageMaker was transparent to either system, I was told. That was a decade ago, and computer stuff can change, but a check with Eric will tell you if it will work on MAC. I am kind of curious now myself.
