    Gas leakage

I filled my car a week ago and when I park the car on an slight camber angle it leaks fuel. We do drive on the opposite side of the road and when parked the petrol cap is on the kerb side. Which is on the lower side of the road. Does the 58 59 60 Corvettes have a problem with leaking when on an angle due to a short filler neck.

Yes. With a full tank, if the fuel fill side is downhill, you could get leakage. It could be that the heat of the day expands the gasoline in the tank, which is already close to the top because you filled it, and spills out around an ill fitting cap. More likely is that the gasoline in the tank tilts to the fuel filler hose and stays in the hose. Then either the hose is porous. Or, the hose connection at the tank leaks. These hoses are known to leak. Any hose more than 10 years old is suspect and should be replaced.

Many people deal with this by only filling the tank 3/4 full; parking on the RH side of the road; and, taking RH turns slowly.

      Stewart...
Best Check the filler neck hose, if dry-rotted, replace (do not use radiator hose as a replacement)
check the fuel cap, If vented, replace with a non-vented cap. and make sure the drain hose still exists from the nipple in the bottom of the filler cavity down through a rubbe grommet in the underbody so spillage drains out on the road.
Final note; the fuel tank should not leak.....

Better replace the whole lot to be on the safe side. It has been so hot here lately 100 - 110 and I think the day I noticed the fuel loss was around 90 -95 so the fuel was probably swelling a bit. I don't like fuel leaks I always associate fuel with fire.

Stew- Australia's heat and devastating fires as of late has prompted me to stop my complaining about the long and cold winter we have been experiencing here in western Canada. I hope you are not in harm's way where you are situated and that your country's affected regions soon get some long-overdue respite from the scorching heat, wind, drought and wildfires plaguing them at present. Take care.

          Regards,

          Bert

Follow the news north to Queensland (Great Barrier Reef & tropical weather of the Coral Sea)... They're suffering MAJOR flooding! A classic case of wishing the weather could be 'rotated'...
